2. I think the people who hated the characters so much in this game mainly did so because they didn’t like playing as anyone but Spyro. They’re purists. Because the characters all control just fine and are fun.

   But more importantly, their levels are built for their limitations. Insomniac was working with some fairly new ideas for platformers for the time, and they knew it. They knew what each character would need to play like. For instance, I won’t name names because you’re trying to keep them secret, but the fourth character was unheard of in a platformer at the time.

   If these levels asked you to navigate through intricate obstacles quickly as Sgt Byrd, or had you going across narrow walkways as Sheila, or had you doing anything speed focused as the third character, it wouldn’t work. But because Insomniac knew how the characters controlled, they built the levels accordingly. They gave Byrd wide open spaces, Sheila high but not wide jumps, and the third character compact level layouts so that none of them felt like a chore.

   That’s why they worked for me. And Sgt Byrd and character number 3 are my favorites in the series to date.

3. That scene with Sgt. Byrd blowing away Moneybags is easily the funniest part in the entire series, especially anything in the second game. Quick, witty, brief, and morbid and violent while not even being acknowledged creating superb juxtaposition, just gets me every time. The definition of great slapstick.

4. I never knew you could strafe with Sgt Bird.. although I never really needed it
