nice i love this game I'm playing it right now in the hard mode that I created myself leaving the bosses stronger in the way they should be
I really want to try this game. I love the idea of being able to create hybrid characters and the idea of becoming game breakingly overpowered does not sound like a bad thing to me. The only thing stopping me is I honestly cant decide between this game and Final Fantasy tactics war of the lions. I tend to be a purist when it comes to these type of things an example is the fact that i feel really bad that I cant afford the SNES version of final fantasy 6 even though the ps1 version is fine. But the dialogue in the war of the lions version just seems to be such an improvement : / so im lost. I dunno which one to play : /
I'd play it, but I hate Ivalice so much that I can't stomach it. Thanks FFXII!
I appreciate this review, thanks~!!
As someone who is a real sucker for tactical RPGs, complex job systems, customizable party building, and beautiful sprite art to boot, it really saddened me to give up on this game about half way through.
If I had to describe this game's admittedly ambitious design in one word, it would be sloppy.
I'm grateful for the modding community's devotion to repairing this game, but I feel like its fundamental design is too rough to polish. My search for another tactical RPG with a customizable party and job system with beautiful sprite art continues…
I played the shit out of this game for PS1 version and then the PSP version, grinded all my characters to max stats which basically my one character can complete coop missions at ease, great time.
Your reviews flow really well. Glad I happened upon your channel!
This game is awesome. Why should you play it?
1. The story is engaging and the characters have depth. 2. The OST is lovely and greatly intensifies the experience. 3. The battle system is enjoyable, though it can be exploited.
Having played almost every game in the franchise, I absolutely recommend this one. Peace!
So the PSP version DOES have a better translation. Thanks for informing.
loved the game and loved the review. however in your review ou stated how the battlefield can be difficult to place your units due to obstructs kinda bothered me due to the fact you stated the map can be zoomed in and out and rotated. Did you know you could tilt the map, and if so you didn't state you could.
Great review. I wish they would make a new Tactics game sometime.
Another great review. One of my favorites of all time so i will try not to be biased. Ill start with the bad first:
Really apparent the translation was HORRIBLE first release. Really rough. Second was the difficulty pacing like you pointed out. There are some battles that occur where the difficulty spikes randomly that could potentially force you to return to older saves to readjust (Vielus and Gafgarrion = worst offenders). Another thing, they throw so many Overpowered hero characters at you that can make the game a joke, think they did this for casual players. Also i only have one problem with the story: it turned into another "save the world from evil beast" type of plot when 9/10ths of the game clearly did not go in the this direction.
Otherwise, one of the best plots ever, one of the best battle systems ever. Really really deep characters and questions of class, religion and privilege and runaway ambition. Considering the era it was released, the plot was waaaayyy ahead of its time and considering its an FF title, has many real world parallels and implications. Good graphics, awesome gameplay, engaging lore, and my god that story.
Great review. Easily 9.5/10. Probably bit biased this games flaws can be easily overcome, especially in the PSP versions.
best class : ninja
why they don't do remake of ps1 games
we need more man!! more videos please
This sounds like a game I'd love. It's like every character can build like the mc in Fire Emblem Awakening. Also, can you maybe review a Persona game sometime?
Great review! This game is a classic!
This is a game where I disagree with the masses. I could go on for hours about how bad and broken this game is. But to each his own.
Thanks for making these bro!
Great review! I love Final Fantasy Tactics. Its story and characters are definitely worth a single playthrough, although it took me multiple playthroughs before I felt like I "got" most of what is in the game. I missed a lot of the optional sidequests and recruiting different characters the first time I played the game. For me personally, that just gave the game replayability, as I was able to go back and rediscover all those missed secrets. But I can understand that most people probably won't play through such a long game multiple times like I do. 😛 I feel like one of the great joys of having customizable characters is the ability to make completely game-breaking builds. Haha. This game is so much fun to tinker and toy with to get those unstoppable characters. For those that complain about that, it is definitely avoidable and not necessary for clearing the game (as I didn't on my first playthrough). And this is a possibility of any game that allows you to customize your characters – to a degree. Like FF7 and FF8, if you know how to set up your materia or junctions in the right ways, it is easy to break the game there as well. If it isn't for you, then just ignore it. 😉 I did want to go back once again and say that the story and characters are excellent. Delita is one of my favorite characters in gaming. The level of planning and manipulating that he sets into motion are great, really gets the gears turning to wrap your head around how he managed to plan all this out. And I like that he is never fully portrayed as "evil", never truly the game's antagonist, but not really on your side either. I think it would have been easy to make him the villain and fighting against Ramza, but they went much more subtle with his character.
One thing I did want to mention about the PSP version, I've heard that a lot of people prefer the PS1 version due to the slow down that the PSP version suffers from. I will say that it is definitely noticeable, but it wasn't a "deal breaker" for me. I love having the convenience of playing FF Tactics on a handheld, as I seem to have less opportunity to sit in front of a TV for long periods of time these days. 😛 Again, great video! 🙂
Great review as always! FFT really have incredibly well draw sprites.
Also the sound is too quiet, the start of the intro music is perfect to hear out of my phone speaker but then you lower the level. With a little background noise and then I cant hear the review. Thanks 😉
Btw what is the intro music? I have heard it used in a gaming audio podcast called logik something something. Cant fully remember.
another amazing review!! 👍👍👍
Excellent review! This is probably my favorite strategy game of all time. I really wish we could see another serious sequel in the series, I didn't like the childish feeling of the FFTA and FFTA2 games, as well as I disliked the Judge system they introduced. I replayed this fairly recently on the PSP port, which was nice but the slowdowns really bring that version down.
Great review, I'm happy that you pointed out how some combinations can be overpowered with customization, all good fun.
Nice review… About the PSP version: I heard the new translation uses the same kind of "old english" as Tactics Ogre LUCT. Even though i could understand the script of Tactics Ogre, the experience was rather "alienating", as i couldn`t relate to these characters and their "uncasual" way of speaking. Is the PSP version of FF Tactics using the same language?
great review bro.
04:24 Oh no! That is one of the toughest battles to beat without resorting to cheap tactics. I refuse to use those tactics in that battle, simply because I find it to be not fun. The battle after that has the absolute worst guest character AI I have ever seen. Trying to save a character that charges directly at the enemy is a pain, especially when the enemies have such a high speed stat.
This is my favorite strategy game. Love the story, characters, customization, and everything else. Sure it can be broken, but if you play it without exploiting these flaws, it can be one of the most challenging and rewarding games in the genre.
Nice review! But why the preference of the ps1 version over the psp?
This game was great back in the day. Can't say if it holds out over the years with the release of more game in this genre, though… Tactics Ogre, FFTA and FFTA2 came to mind. Oh, Delita's a piece of shit and Ramza is the hero we all deserve.
Great review, as always!
Another great review. Loved the game when it was first released, but have soured on it over time. I find myself sticking with Tactics Ogre and Jeanne D'Arc. (I really wish Jeanne D'Arc would get a modern port.)
