PlayStation wins because it's the motherfucking PlayStation.
Intro is about the same…
i've tried pc steam with those graphics back way before steam released with emulator back then xD… good job making this video
Good job!
This game graphics… It hasn't aged well… it looks bad on both PS and Steam. It's strange because I like the graphics of ff 5, 6 and 9 way better than 8 and 7. Good thing 7 is getting a remake.
Steam version seems to be more brighter/colorful. Would love to try the emulator version but all ps1 games I have ever played on an emulator look like a big pixelated mess and is just too hard of a strain on the eyes.
Although I am a hardcore FF fan, the I wouldnt mind playing the PC version for this game. Yes its not the original but with the update to better graphics I would enjoy it a bit more. FF 7 and 8 are to me by far the best stories followed by 10. Do you NEED a control to play this from the steam store or can it be played with keyboard and mouse?
Ok so what I managed to gather from this is exactly what I suspected while playing it; The Character models in the PS1 version are jaggy and pixelated to hell while the PC version ones are much cleaner looking. However, the backdrops in the Ps1 version looks smooth(320×224 folks) while the PC ones look like absolute dogshit(I can SEE the damned pixels)due to them being stretched out.
The PC version artifacts HARD during FMV or fast movement. Also the Ps1 version uses more sound channels as the PC version SEEMS to be either A entirely in mono or B passed though some kind of filter that makes it sound terrible. My guess is less sound channels and a filter that makes it sound like ass…You don't notice it too much until he quetz summon where the Ps1 version sounds much more intense and varied.
Shitty port is shitty, seriously, just emulate the ps1 game and put on AA, it will look and sound way better.
Graphically the pc version looks better… less pixelated any ways, however, both really hurt the eyes a bit today. I'd say FF7 was the easier to remake. If FF8 ever got a remake it would have to almost be a complete re-rendering for the magic, and junction system. I still like the limit break system, just might need to tweak it a bit. Still one of the best ost ever imo.
Nice Ill thik ill buy it
Not surprised you couldn't sync the summons. Looks like they used that trick of speeding up the animations to make it look like there's more frames.
Wow.. I can't believe I thought FF VIII graphic was good on ps1 when I first played it. Even the pc version with higher resolution is an eyesore to look at right now. The graphic sure came a long way since then. lol. Even those amazing pre-rendered demo graphic looks crap now. lol. I still remember people were saying ps2 could do almost as good as ps1 pre-render graphic in real time but now, real time graphic on ps4 far surpasses ps1 pre-rendered graphic. Good god.
Oh boy, I sure do love watching system menus and black screens.
In other words, very minor detail that no one would ever notice. At most the gamma/brightness difference.
Graphics=PC and Controls and Sound=PSX.
Hello, im newbie here can somebody tell FFVIII PS1 version or FFVIII pc steam version which one is good? can we use Dualshock for FFVIII pc steam version?
This isn't a good audio quality comparison. The photo montage at the start of the PC version's music is absolutely dreadful.
Stop using ps comparisons when we have superior systems to play it on, emulators. With that said, FF8 ps is the superior port. FF8 steam doesn't have rumble and is plaqued with controller connectivity issues.
Thank you for doing this. I think I'll be getting the steam version. Although I'm still thinking of getting it for my psvita as the portability or being able to play this on the go is a really huge advantage.
All the pre-rendered background stuff looks better on the PS side. At least on this up close video. Probably doesn't once its not as zoomed in.
PSOne looks better XD , is like watching an cool old film, PC version is like a new crappy film 😉
Why does Quetzalcoalt make the sounds of Phoenix in the PC version? :/
Great Work!
thanks for doing this
I actually like your previous comparison video because it showcases the difference between the music and the sound effects of the two ports good job though. there is a huge difference with the sound. the PC version uses a midi synthesizer to play each track of the PlayStation version. overall the PC version triumph in graphics while the PlayStation version boost more in sound
ps1 vs pc always lose ps. it would be better ff viii(2000) vs ff viii steam version
Woah, that was a lot of work! Nice video!
I fight myself down to the gameshop and bought this game…because of you brother! Thanks for this amazing video!…Now I played both steam and in my emulator
seems like the noticeable differences are the dark colors also awesome job on the pace matching
I recently got FF7 on PS4, which is the PC version with some nifty little cheats thrown in. Loving the game so far, and it is starting to get really interested in 8 and 9. I was happy to see 8 is also on Steam but I wanted to see if they upped the graphics for it like 7, and they definitely did! Nice video. I also wanted to know, is there any way to enable a sort of speed boost for the game, much like what was added for the PS4 port of FF7? These games are exceptionally long and big, and I appreciate the speed boost affect for 7 on PS4 cuz it's allowing me to make an 80 hour game be a 30 to 40 hour game.
PC versions with mods, (psx music and better graphics)
Appreciating the crap out of your video!!!!! The flaws that you have are few and extremely tolerable. By that I mean I just do not care about the flaws. Your work helped me make the decision on if I was going to by FFVIII on steam or not. I would love to know what software you used to create this comparison video, I will be doing something similar in the future.
Can you use frameskip and GG codes with the PC version?
