I think the PSP soundtrack sounds good on it's own, and I can understand the argument that P1 isn't too serious anyway, but I still personally think the older one fits better because I like the "spooky-dooky demons" approach to the way the music sounds better than the light-hearted J-pop sort of stuff, but that's just me. I still think the PSP soundtrack's boss music is superior though.
And I noticed the best way to remember which enemies have which resistances is the type and subtypes of demons (Element repels element subtype and is weak to Force-type (gravity, blast, nuclear, electric) spells, for example).
Great video, by the way. Probably one of the most unbiased reviews of P1 I've seen
YES
(answering to the video's title)
I really want to try some SMT games, DDS and maybe the older personas after getting into the series with P4G and playing through P3. I really like the aethetics, sound design, stories, characters. I just feel like the games would just be too damn dense and punishing for me to get through. It's not just about difficulty per se, but some of the older JRPG tropes kinda irk me. The grinding, the gruelingly long dungeons, punishing deaths… call me a casual all you want, I don't really care, but as a latecomer to JRPG's they sometimes end up feeling like a chore to get through. I might try out Nocturne since I have a device for it, but we'll see.
Personally I jumped in at Persona 4, I didn’t really like it at first because of how slow it took to get into the real meat of the game, but I ended up loving it, but hot damn did I love Persona 1 right from the start, the intro was quick and to the point, the game looks great for a PS1, the battles are fun, it’s not overly difficult or anything, and it’s just a fun and very enjoyable game overall, I prefer classic Persona over modern Persona, but they’re both amazing!
I would be able to bring myself to play the older Persona titles if the combat was different. I just did not like the combat in p1 and 2.
cough cough things that return in persona 5
heres a question why the FUCK dose japan fucking do that ALL THE FUCKING TIME?! WHY CUT OUT SHIT FOR US BUT JAPAN GETS 100% OF THE PRODUCT WHILE WE GET ONLY 50 OR 75 %
I recently decided to check out revaluations since I love P3-5…I didn't really like it that much…does that mean it's a bad game? Nah, probably not. It's just not my sort of RPG
if the music bothers you (as it did for me) you could grab the music patch. there's one that replaces the psp music with p1's original soundtrack, or at least the best attempt to do so since they cut a ton of variations of the tracks.
Don't worry demon negotiations are back
Is there any way to play Snow Queen Quest on PSX with english readable text?
You could just Google a walkthrough, problem solved. lol
That entire spin off series is overhyped garbage. Screw persona
Here to say that yes, that final boss was a pain. Somehow i did it in my first try, but it took almost 2 hours since I was a bit underleveled and was thinking over every single turn like it was my last :
I didn't like persona 1 because the encounter rate was soooo annoying so i didnt finish it but from what i play the the story was pretty decent, the music was awesome as always and the mechanics were pretty good for its time.
I lover persona 1 mechanics, sound design, and story in all because of the differences between other smt games and rpgs. Makes it really hard to find rpgs like it.
J-pop music fitting the tone is subjective it's the fact that a good size of the soundtrack is gone in psp. The original P1's soundtrack of all SMT I would say is the most varied beyond just dark when had multiple songs for somber, bleak, atmospheric oppressive, hopeful, and so on. The also moved stuff from over world and dungeons killing exploration. Coupled with reduced enouncter rate it's really disappointing port that tries to be a sudo-remake.
A P1 remake done in a style more like Etrian Odyssey or PQ, it would probably work a lot better. The presentation and affordances those game grant the player would do quite a bit to mitigate the annoyance of the high encounter rate, first person dungeons, and all that comes with them.
long persona fan here and i just want to say, the problem with the old persona games is that they just didnt age well personally
P1-P2 are really great games, they're just more targeted at SMT fans who can handle high encounter rates and like gameplay over story, it has a good story and good characters but modern persona fans are just too casual to appreciate them
I love this game
Ok whoah persona 4 has a really good story and in my opinion it's better than the story of person
It's a few things.
-visually, 1 & 2 are bland. -gameplay is more complex than it needs to be. (to many element/physical types) -battles take forever -random encounters
P3-5 improve all this, and tbh I just like how they focus more on the slice of life aspect of the series with the inclusion of social links. it sucks because I actually like P2's story and characters but can't bring myself to complete it :/
when you say was it bad i played a little bit of the first persona game and its ok you said that this game gets overshadowed by others yeah you can kinda say that me and a couple other fans were talking about persona one and someone said that its good but the character are kinda steriotypical and that is kinda true, after playing persona 3,4 snd seeing a p5 walkthrough (shoutouts to niche gamer) then playing p1 yeah the series kinda has this slow start but now its going strong but yeah i guess if we were around the time p1 originally came out it would be way different. but p1 aint good or bad its ok just compared to the modern games you see why this game gets overshadowed
if it was 2 overwhelming smt fans would love this game but its not its pretty simple compared 2 other smt games and i dont think persona fans dont like the game cuz its 2 hard i think its way 2 easy even compared to 4 and especially 3 and the characters are not that great either except maybe Reiji Kido he is rly kewl its just an ok game not bad or good just ok
Moar vn's please D:
Ehhh… The newbies to the series are very vocal about it and don't appreciate the older ones.
This actually was the first and only Persona game I have played, mostly because my psp doesn't have enough memory for 2 or 3…
I did quit pretty early I admit but it was for one reason and only one reason, the battle rate, when I'm in the map trying to figure out where to go I keep getting into battles when I just wanna progress, I know it's a dumb complaint but it did bother me for some reason-
