Blades of Steel is game that made me love hockey, while my love towards basketball made me to play EA NBA 2001 , bdw, I am glad to see Vlade Divac in the NBA JAM , he is from same country as I am, I followed his career a lot, specially when he was in Sacramento Kings .
NFL BLITZ on N64 was the best
My favorite sports game would have to be NBA shootout 2004. The game was overall quite disturbing. The sound track was very weird, and the character creation was also strange. The game play was on another level. It was just so competitive
I love nba 2k and would like to try some day the show
Punch out nes and slalom.
TecmoBowl and Blades of Steel
blades of steel was my first game ever 🙂
I love Tennis video games, and Baseball is really fun too. I don't like real life sports, though. Honestly the Mario sports are great fun
Nba jam old school snes madden ,nhl 93-95 , nba 2k but the dream cast version
I'm definitely a fan of the more "arcadey" sports games. One of my all time favorites is SNK's Super Sidekicks 3. Awesome soccer game that I could and have played for hours and hours.
Ice Hockey is better than blades of steel but i played both a lot, Wayne Gretsky's 3D hockey '98 for N64 i played so much i did a shootout and once you miss you lose, i scored over 2000 goals and the game froze.
ICE HOCKEY for NES, any madden and mario tennis then of course wii sports and sports resort, the archery is dope as fuck
mlb the show
I haven't played a sports video game in years, but I used to love the more "arcade-y" ones. I was obsessed with Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey on the N64 back in the day, haha. I made my whole team from scratch. I also love Base Wars for the NES.
I tried playing one of the newer NHL games a few years back on the 360, but I just couldn't handle the new controller scheme for it. Now NHL 94, you got it!
I'm honestly surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet but MLB Power Pros 2008 on Wii and PS2 would be right up your alley, Johnny. It's a Japanese anime RPG baseball game and it is just so charming and addicting, I think you'd really enjoy it.
on n64 i played nba hangtime (same as jam i guess?)
ps1 played jonah lomu rugby
ps2/xbox nba street 2, a little bit of stacey jones rugby league.
Now im not much into sports games now but i do have nba2k15
megaman soccer, super tennis and nba jam my 3 favorite sports games!!!! for the snes
I've always liked the snowboarding games like Cool Boarders and SSX.
I don't know if they count, but the Tony Hawk series <3 either that or the SSX snowboarding games. 🙂 I have a quite alternative style and live in Michigan where it snows, so people, almost constantly, ask me if I can either skate or snowboard. But to be honest I've always loved the video games more than actually skating or snowboarding because of how ridiculously easy and painlessly you can do tricks haha.
NBA Jam on the SNES and ISS64 on the N64 were probably the only two I have the most fond memories of but I never was into sports titles.
Amped and Amped 2 for the original Xbox are phenomenal games that never got much attention. Amped 3, not so much. I also like SSX, but the Amped games are like half-sim / half-Tony-Hawk where you see how many points you can accumulate by stringing together tricks on a pretty wide-open field of snow before reaching the bottom of the hill. And you can upgrade your player's abilities whenever you meet certain score milestones. Brutally difficult, but fair for the most part. Amped 2 works exceptionally well emulated on an Xbox 360 too.
Mutant league hockey or mutant league football. Base wars on nes
im all about the nba 2k on pc i used to play a lot of fight night on the gamecube
I can't say enough how much I appreciate this vid. I see so many game reviews and retrospectives that are just dismissive and spit on sports games for no other reason than they don't like sports.
There are some quite good baseball games out there (especially true if you collect Japanese titles). I also quite like golf games, probably the best one for me when I was in my PC gaming phase was Lynx 386.
Does the Tony Hawk series count?
The old NHL games are great and so are the NBA Jam games too. My favorite sport series is probably Tony Hawk Proskater if that counts lol.
