Limited Run Games showed the big wigs that small time game publishers can be successful when creating limited stock of supplies. Because of this success, …

I think there are very few limited edition anythings that really excite me . I think it's ironic that some people bad mouth the old n64 collectathon games , yet their whole lives are one giant collectathon. Strictly Limited games is just a natural and inevitable reaction to what's going on in the collecting market. I like that they are only going to do one a month. The fact that now there is an NES RPG about collecting the original 30 black box games just shows how we have come full circle and how collecting is invading the games themselves. Enough of my rambling, awesome video man , keep it up!
I think I great it create competition
I love that these digital only games are coming to physical. I'm not a fan of things being digital only and would much rather own the a physical copy of any game. My only issue with these physical releases is the supply. I get that they can only do a limited run on the games because they don't own the rights to actually publish the game long term. I just wish that I was able to get a copy of the games I love in physical format without paying out the ass for it because I didn't have the money at the time they were being sold.
Hopefully someone takes notice that these games are constantly selling out every single time with no issues and they start doing physical releases of smaller games instead of needing these companies approach them to do it. It's not just collectors that want the games after all, there's people that want to get them just to play them and know they'll always have it sitting there.
I think it goes both ways, it would make complete sense if the games themselves didn't have a high enough price to warrant a physical copy. But AAA games like Gravity Rush Remastered and Shadow Warrior 2 shouldn't be doing this, it's a bit ridiculous if there are games out there for the same price or cheaper and they still can't get a normal release, plus it's just bad for business, what if some people don't go online or are not tech savvy (aka casual I guess) and they want to play the game, usually they would find the game in the store and say "this looks good, i'll try it". However if a game is typically between 15$-25$ then I could understand limited print stuff, they aren't charging enough to resort to a normal physical release, that's why games like Little Nightmares or Stardew Valley come with merchandise, so they can charge a little more so they can make it physical. This is how I see it.
Not surprising in the least. Any successful business model is bound to reproduce itself—just look at all the subscription box services available these days. Everything from gaming to makeup to food boxes. If it's done once (successfully), it's guaranteed to pop up again. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's like a town with ten different burger joints. Keeps prices competitive while offering variety for the consumer. Especially with their limiting to a single game a month. That's WAY more affordable than the already 40+ titles released by LRG. And I can't fault them [SLG] for offering merchandise to accompany their physical discs. Gamers love that crap.
That being said, I doubt I'll bite. I haven't purchased a single thing thus far from LRG, and unless SLG offers up a physical edition of something I just CAN'T live without (and I have no idea what that would be—possibly AMY), my money will be staying put.
And I just have to echo the sentiments of other subs here. The production value of your videos just keep getting better and better. I mean, the content of SmashJT is always top notch. But the quality of the vids of late is aces. Thumbs WAY up, JT. 🙂
it's just awesome and now even us european guys can benifit of this and it's just great that they are focusing only on playstation platform
Damm …more money to spend…lol. Great vid bro.
it's becoming it's own subset of gaming. madness, i tell you. madness!
Great discussion JT! Itll be interesting to see whether this could be healthy competition and we'll get a larger variety of games at good prices but time will tell. Regardless thanks again for that y's origin update earlier, i bought a copy! 🙂 (My first limited run purchase).
Competition is Good. The preservation of all things Gaming is Cool. The initial release from Strictly Limited is a what the what moment, really. As I've never heard of the featured game.
Hopefully a few games come to Market that maybe of interest to me. However, I'm likely to forget about both Companies as this is the 1st News I've on either for me.
I can get behind this one.
Nothing different to what Nintendo are doing with the mini consoles, its a gimmick that will sell games fast…. maybe fast enough to sell out before any bad reviews haha
There's so many competitors to Limited Run right now. It's why I gave up on pursuing full sets of anything for this generation. That aside, I finally got my Shadow Warrior 2 set from Special Reserve and I gotta say.. they really go above and beyond.
I think it's a good idea if they put out some good quality stuff but they have to make sure it's not just mobile phone looking games like Tokyo game.
Also this music in the background sounds kinda sad. Lol
That's good news! More chances for us to get physical games! Competition is good, i hope these companies to release better games and the prices to go down a bit!
Your ability to put out new and current content is amazing! Loving those pixel pals in the background!
Remember! If some says it collectible, it rarely is. I'd rather own the originals as a collectible. The only time I'd own a limited run game is if I actually wanted to play a classic game on a current console.
Awesome video Jeff! There are soo many companies that do this now that I don't mind another one entering the market. You have Limited Run, iam8bit, fangamer, Special Reserve Games, Signature Edition, Vblank Entertainment, and now this company lol.
The more competition, the better. It may also help spread supply out a bit more, since everyone won't focus solely on Limited Run. Then again, games from both will be bought up by scalpers, so who are we kidding, lol.
I don't mind normally competition makes for better business on both parties. As for people who complain about it as you said, you don't need to buy it and if you want it you can still get it digitally anyways. I do like the 1 game a month restriction.
Competition is always a good thing and welcome in my book. It's what keeps a company honest, where they won't drive up the prices for products. Monopolized products are always bad for the consumer.
The last thing we need lol
Limited Run, iam8bit, Signature Edition, and Fangamer are a few that have been doing this. The more the merrier as far as I'm concerned.
I'm actually looking forward to this company. I'm excited for the opportunity to buy more physical games that we might not have gotten before. I read an article that said this company is based in Germany. I hope shipping to the US won't be too costly.
