Love "Title bout"… wish this game wasn't so expensive and hard to come by. Heard it's a great game.
Have you played " Real action sports car championship" board game? RASC championship.
Love any and all the AH "statis pro " line… it's amazing
Best baseball game: Replay Baseball; Best football game: Second Season Football and it's CFL counterpart, Cold Snap. Best hockey game: ABPA Hockey; Best basketball game: Replay Basketball; Best bowling game: ABPA Pro Bowling;
I just want to mention a couple of games that were very popular and very well done games at its time in Spain. "Exin Basquet" which was a dexterity basketball game in which the ball floated in the air when pressing thick buttons that blew streams of air out at certain spots on the pitch. Also I think is worthy to mention a new soccer game called "Soccer City: the beautiful game" designed in a vintage style ("chariots of fire" era) on a board and played with cards and a referee die that captures many aspects of the sport and takes place at a reasonable pace that matches that of a real soccer match.
Brings up the memories.. I was creating stats based sports games for myself in my childhood (NBA, wrestling, racing, etc.). Of course they were veeery simplistic, but usually involved dice.
My poor Sixers. I wear an Allen Iverson jersey and no comments about it or them. My team is so irrelevant that nobody will even mock me over it. 🙁
lol Jordan would've trounced all over Chamberlain…
Okay, have to comment…. IMHO: Best Football Game. Strat-O-Matic Football, Best Baseball Game: Dynasty League Baseball (Pursue the Pennant), Best Basketball Game: StatisPro Basketball. Wrasslin, Slapshot, Tudor Electric Football, Strat-O-Matic Baseball and Basketball, Table Top Hockey (you had a great picture of the box of mine.) All Honorable mention. I grew up in the 60s. Started with Strat-O-Matic Baseball 1971 season (Toe Torre MVP .366/24/124? maybe) Had several seasons then moved to StatisPro Baseball for several years until 1985 with Pursue the Pennant. I met the creator of the game and have had dialogue with him for years. Nothing like the 1998 Homerun derby by McGwire and Sosa. I have owned most of the Avalon Hill sports games. Still have my NCAA Tournament game which I am forgetting the name. I still set it up.. like this weekend and play the whole tourny in about an hour. Dice driven in the basic form, card driven with dice in the more advanced. Side story about Wrasslin, was in Dallas for classes (Telco switch engineer) and was staying at a local hotel. On a Monday night, during football season, the bar was full but I was by myself. So I went down to eat, drink a bit, and watch football. And I just happen to have my copy of Wrasslin. I took it with me and set it on the side of the table. Somebody finally asked me what it was. I invited him to play, and we started. And then more people started watching us and we got vocal with each other. One match turned to five and other people wanted to play.. so tag team.. finally the manager came out because the football people were complaining we were too loud. The Manager joined us and we played well after closing. About 12 in all. I still have my beer stained game and will never part with it.. what a great time that was. We ended with a 12 man battle royal. I got thrown out in about the first minute but then I did the ring announcement and everyone had a hell of a time. Good fun.
Some older gents were playing Stratomatic Pro Football at my FLGS on last Saturday, keeping track of stats and all.
No Subbutteo?!?!?! :O
I have watched hundreds of these "Top ? Games" lists and this is the first one that I have ever seen that I actually own just about all of the games listed. I guess I can't disagree with any of your lists now, can I? Kudos!
Great to see K2, but how could you guys miss SlapShot? 🙂
The metallic version of Sure Shot Hockey was so great!
Great vid!
when are you guys going to do a top 5 solitaire games
Great video guys!!! I'm highlighting sports games on my channel, so it's great to see sports simulations getting some attention. 🙂
someone is violating the King Ralph rule… lol
Quite the trip down memory lane… a very enjoyable video! I agree with Greg's shout out to Wrasslin'. A great fun game!… and a surprisingly accurate simulation of pro wrestling back in the day… {wink}. As a Canadian… I naturally had quite a few table hockey games over the years… still have one that was Made in Sweden (by Stiga) that has automatic flashing red lights and digital scoreboard updates when a goal is scored. My cousin has one from the 1930s that is more like pinball than hockey… but still a riot. My favourites from the different sports genres: Baseball: Avalon Hill's Baseball Strategy… generic but asymmetrical teams… and really only worked if you played a series of at least three games… so that you needed to manage the pitchers… and not all of the pitch cards were available every game. Horse Racing: I always thought Avalon Hill's Win. Place, Show was a great game… but you really needed to play the whole series of races… and I could never get enough people together long enough to do that. Car Racing: These are the 2 sports games that I can get people to play now… Formula D and Thunder Alley. Formula D is good fun as a "push your luck" game… but the 2 lap race is too long for my group… and I get a little frustrated when people spend all their wear points for a 2 lap race in the 1st lap… and then call it quits… AAARGH! [wink]. I'm not a NASCAR fan… but Thunder Alley is a lot of fun… the drafting mechanic keeps everyone involved… so there isn't much down time. Back in the day… I did play a lot of Statis Pro Baseball and Basketball… but only ever solo. Couldn't imagine them being much fun as a "competitive" game. Two of the worst… both by Avalon Hill… United States Auto Club Auto Racing… I actually solo played a 33 car Indy 500… I think I was in a mood to test my resistance to torture. And the worst: Pro Tennis… an absolutely appalling dice fest.
when talking about horses with colored names is he talking about Royal Turf?
Strat-O-Matic Baseball really is amazing, and the computer versions have been fantastic over the years too. Between Strat-O-Matic and the Amiga computer game, Earl Weaver Baseball, my baseball stat hound fate was sealed at a young age.
I wonder if there's anything like Strat-O-Matic for cricket. It seems like the system would be a great fit.
I don't know what it is…maybe because I played college football and played when I was in the Marine Corps…or the fact I coach football but I find sports games to be uninteresting. Good video but a very dull genre in my opinion.
Where is first and goal at? That game blows all other football games out of the water, and is just an all around great sports game.
