7 Unpopular Videogame Opinions You’ll Definitely Disagree With
December 11, 2018 1 min read
Rob presents our list of 7 unpopular videogame opinions you’ll definitely disagree with. So, do you agree that you disagree with them all? Or are their any you …
Unpopular opinion: (brace for impact) Luigi is not the worst character in Mario universe, and Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Unleashed are two of the best Sonic games in recent years
Unpopular opinion = I like QTEs
I either agree or have no care either way with all these opinions… But I'm old
What is the point?
Early co-op is genius, in the same room. Every online FPS is now an exaggerated angry birds.
I agree with all these except the inverted controls. If you prefer games with inverted controls, you're weird.
I think that first time playing you should play on easy or normal and experience the story if there is one. Then if you want to; go back and play on higher difficulties where you know the basics, but still get revarded for your hard work. (This lowers the chance of rage quitting too)
3:00 the Bravely series. Too bad they took that out of Octopath Traveler
Mgs2 was the best in series imo
playing any deus ex on lower than "give me deus ex" .. you're doin it WRONG
"you stupid pair of…..planes" X'D
i agree with inverted controls cos the plane air controllers move opposite of plane nose tilt, this translated to fps games cos im basically not looking up with my eyes my eyes are straight at the screen but im moving the nose tilt of the camera
Unpopular opinion: MGS4-GOTP was the greatest game in the HD generation of MGS saga.
Inverts must…
Unpopular opinion: Dark Souls 2 is my favorite From Software game. Before anyone asks: yes, I have played Dark Souls 1, 3, Bloodborne and Demon Souls. DS 2 is still my favorite. I honestly love it because it’s so different than all the others.
So about the inverted controls i do realize they are a thing, about inverting the X axis though is stupid and no reason to be there however i do Invert the Y axis ONLY in games like Ace Combat or games that are mainly Flight oriented…..because if you think about it that is literally how a Pilot controls are.
I haven't played DmC, but I pretty much agree with every opinion here. ESPECIALLY the controls thing!
I agree with all of those opinions to some decree.
The only thing I don't fully agree with is Raiden. The character is fine, but his arc in metal gear Solid 2 just doesn't work for me, especially his banter with his girlfriend that just feels like filler. This is especially damaging as there is very, very much story in these few hours and because Solid Snake takes spotlight time from Raiden. Add to that that Ocelot overshadows everyone by his incredible coolness and Raiden was just too underdeveloped to be great.
About easy mode: I like easy mode for almost every game. However, there are games in which the difficulty sets you in a specific mindset (Touhou), makes you feel like a badass for every success (Dark Souls) or add a ludo narrative element to it (most Atlus games) that are lost in easy mode. I often fall in the trap of going to easy mode too soon. Thus, I like some of the dickery of some 16bit games (and touhou) want to find the true ending and play the incredible last stage? Not in easy mode, pal. Back in that day, I played every game on the easiest difficulty first and then got to the harder ones. I didn't beat all of them, but I am still proud of beating those I did (like cooping Contra3 in hard mode). With other games (super ghosts and ghouls ), I'm satisfied with almost beating easy mode.
I actually agree with the cutscenes, shorter games, and easy mode completely. The rest, I've no real opinion on one way or the other.
Oh, also, my unpopular opinion: QTEs are not bad and can definitely be done right. I'm not going to go into explaining myself unless someone asks.
I agree with five and six, wholeheartedly, and I KIND OF agree with two. I can't explain why inverted control works for me better than standard, but it just does. As for number seven…I see both sides of the argument, it depends on what you want out of the game at any given time.
You don't have any plats?
FYI: Raiden is a gateway gender that might lead you to translove.
The ability to control the random encounter rate is actually in the options of some games like Bravely Default. You can turn them completely off or turn them way up for grinding.
Can't stand inverted tbh. Also love playing on easy. I play to have fun, and for me its more fun on easy. If it is to easy I'll go normal, yes, but hard feels more like a chore.
Right on sir.. I personally didn’t have a huge problem with raiden.. he comes off as a little effete at first but he redeems himself by the end of the game. That’s the metal gear I’ve played through the most times
easy mode: I take it you guys don't play SHMUPS
Does Ace Attorney count as a (relatively) short linear game?
Actually some jrpgs have those mechanics of Turning off random encounters
I love cut scenes but so many of them in games can look awesome but sometimes the voices don't match up with the mouth or it just isn't believable and it looks awful.
Most games are designed to be played on normal, where easy just makes you sluggish and hard will most likely make up for bad AI by letting the enemy spot and hit you through half a forest.
Controls should definitely be inverted vertically. In third person this, in my opinion, this makes sense if you are controlling the camera then to look up or down you control the rear of the camera. Cut scenes are awesome but I'm of the pre-trophy days and do feel like the were a present for completion. Having said that even I have 42 platinums. Lol
I’ll never understand why some people don’t like cutscenes. They add so much depth to games that is almost impossible to do with text bubbles and the like. As for inverted controls, when I was a kid I played Ace Combat for like three days straight and I couldn’t get the hang of regular controls anymore.
100% agree about cutscenes!
I never play hard mode, I always leave it on the easiest mode because I’m not that great of a player. I consider myself a casual player. It’s refreshing to know I’m not the only one who does this. Thx 🙂👍
Inverted controls SUCK. I get upset so much when I boot a game that had them as default. Then I have to ask… "How the hell did I use this?"
i actually do miss random battles.
I was surprised to see how angry people were about Raiden in Mgs2. Metal Gear Solid 2 was my first metal gear game ( I played 3 after THEN 1) and after seeing snake from Raidens perspective in Mgs2, it only made Snake cooler to me, and it really helped cement his legendary status in my mind. Playing 2 first got me into the entire series really.
I didn't find out about the Mgs2 backlash til YEARS later, but in hindsight I can see why people would be mad after playing Mgs1. It's just funny to me how playing 2 first completely changed the way I viewed the story and games compared to others at the time.
